Laessig, J. Terry (17 FEB 1942 - 15 JAN 2014)

Terry J. Laessig, age 71, of Edgar passed away peacefully with family at his side on Wednesday, January 15 2014, at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield after a long courageous battle with Leukemia and Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

The funeral mass will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stratford with the Rev. John Robert Alphonse officiating and music provided by the St. Joseph Resurrection Choir. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 8:30AM until the time of service at the church. A reception will follow the services.

Private committal services will be held at later date. Terry was born in rural Stratford on February 17th 1942 to Lee and Olive Laessig.

He married the love of his life and best friend Diane Stencil on July 7th 1962. They cherished 51 years and raised three sons together. Terry and Diane celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family on a Caribbean cruise.

Terry was a third generation dairy farmer in the town of Cleveland until age 49. After selling the farm the family moved to rural Edgar where he was a Maintenance Engineer at Conagra and North Central Health Care Facilities until his retirement.

He enjoyed daily walks on his 17 acre property tending to his gardens, and several hundred trees he planted over the years. Terry constructed a beautiful pond and landscaping that he dreamt would be enjoyed year round by his family. He spent a lot of time here with his sons, grandchildren, and the family dog, Sayde fishing and relaxing.

Other hobbies included fishing, hunting, 4-wheeling and had a great affection of outdoors. He loved spending time with his family and close friends traveling, playing cards, and became an excellent chef in his kitchen. In recent years Terry became an avid iPad user with his daily ritual of reading the news, emailing his family and friends, and researching his genealogy. Terry was proud of his three son's accomplishments and the love for the outdoors that he taught them which they passed down to their families.

Survivors include his wife Diane of Edgar; three sons: Dan (Jenny) of Stratford, Duane (Anne) of Whitefish Bay, and Erik (Kristin) of Omaha, NE; his grandchildren: Tom, Amy, Adam, Sam, Jake, Zach and great grand daughter, Aubree.

Terry was preceded in death by his father Lee, nephew Steve, and first granddaughter Shannon.

Terry will be forever missed by all. Until we meet again. Arrangements are entrusted to Life Tributes Funeral Home and Cremation Service-Spencer. Visit www.lifetributesfuneralhome.com  to share thoughts and condolences.
