Buker, Arthur Clarence #3 (21 MAY 1895 - 07 DEC 1959)

Arthur Clarence Buker was born in Greenwood on May 21, 1895, the son of the late Edward and Anna Wehrman Buker. He spent his entire life here. He graduated from the Greenwood High School with the class of 1912 and following graduation attended business college at Marshfield and went to work at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in 1912 and has been connected with the bank ever since. At the time of his death he was president of the bank. This bank was one of two banks to remain open, in Clark County, during the Bank Holiday in the early 1930’s.

On April 22, 1918, he was united in marriage to Mae LeGault at St. Paul and they have made their home here since.

Art suffered a heart attack on Monday, December 7, 1959 while at work at the bank and was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. For a time he seemed to be recovering, but suffered another attack and passed away at the hospital at 10:30 that evening.

The body was brought to the Hill Funeral Home where on Thursday evening a Masonic Service was held at 8 p.m.

Funeral services were held at the Zion United Church of Christ at 2 p.m. on Friday, Rev. Orval Egbert, pastor officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

During the service the Men’s Chorus of the West Side Church, sang “Oh What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Abide With Me,” accompanied by Mrs. Clarence Meinhardt at the organ.

The pallbearers were Merrill Hare, Don Warner, Albert Neuenfeldt, Wm. Kuester, Dick Ashbeck and Dr. R. L. Barnes.

Honorary pallbearers were M.E. Kenyon, Steve Plautz, Robert Mau, Wm. Steiger, Henry Vollrath and I.W. Stafford.

He is survived by his wife, Mae; one son Cy, Greenwood; one daughter Mrs. Vernon (Elaine) Mech, Loyal, and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Orlando.

Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were: Otto Wehrman, Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith, Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. George Humke, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Harry Palms, of Sterling, Ill.; Mrs. Elmer Etta and Bob, Rock Falls, Ill.; Mr. Edward Regan, Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. L.H. LeGault and Scott and Douglas, Minneapolis, Minn.; Douglas LeGault, Appleton; Dr. and Mrs. G.A. LeGault, Owen; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gehrt, Rib Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Buker, Loyal

Many friends also attended from: Phelps, Wis.; Chicago, Ill.; Appleton, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen, La Crosse, Loyal, Willard, Milwaukee, Withee, and Thorp.
