Bertz, Reuben (20 August 1902 - 8 November 1971)

Funeral services were to be held this (Thursday) morning at 10 o’clock in Berlin for Reuben Bertz, 69, father of Clark County’s Sheriff David Bertz. He died in the University Hospital at Madison Monday following an illness of several months.

The Very Rev. Lawrence A. Jung of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Berlin will be in charge of the service. Burial will be made in Oakwood Cemetery there.

Mr. Bertz was born in the Loyal area on august 20, 1902, and was a farmer there until he moved to Berlin in 1953. He was married in Neillsville in 1922 to the late Cecilia O’Reilly, who died January 2, 1963.

Surviving are 10 children. They include the following daughters: Mrs. Clarence Bushnell of Lodi; Mrs. Rosemary Sanford of Reedsburg; Mrs. Ed Bogdonovich of Greenwood; Mrs. Colleen Kraeger of Cudahy; Mrs. Max Hayden of Denver, Co.; Mrs. Jerome Ottoway of Mineral Point; Mrs. Lee Koenigs of Madison and Mrs. Gilbert Hill of Van Dyne. In addition to Sheriff Bertz, a second son also survives. He is Robert Bertz of Loyal. Four brothers and sisters also survive: Pat and Jerome of Loyal; John of Greenwood; Lee of Pembine; Mrs. Alfred Haase of Seattle, Wa.; Mrs. Robert Strathman of Colby, and Mrs. Robert Eggersted, who resides in Florida. There are 42 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
