On Sunday, May 31, 1953,
eleven young people were confirmed in the Christian Faith at Emmanuel Lutheran
Church, Longwood. They were robed in white gowns and each wore a single red rose
for the ceremony. Each one came forward slowly and kneeled at the Altar rail to
take their vows. The Rev. M.S. Egge, Pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, spoke
on the theme, "On Your Own."
Catechization for the group was held
Saturday evening at th Emmanuel Church following a year of instruction in the
fundamentals of the Christian faith, Luther's Small Catechism and the Gospel of
St. John in the New Testament. The Confirmants were given New Testaments as a
gift from the Congregation on Sunday, May 17.
Members of the calss were:
Geraldine Roix, betty Mae Kivikko, Elizabeth Jane Ericksmoen, Yvonne Elizabeth
Himes, Ronald Herman Luraas, June Karen Smith, Carol Ruth Smith, Thomas Edward
Scherf, Frank William Scherf, Mary Jean Stumpner, and Kathleen Alvina Stumpner.
They will receive their first Communion next Sunday at the morning worship
service.
