Pieper, Reuben (13 MAY 1924 - 23 AUG 1952)

Reuben Pieper, 28, Milwaukee drowned at Rock Dam, 8 miles west of Willard, on Saturday, Aug. 23, 1952, when he topped from a boat at 11:30 a.m. and sank beneath the water while witnesses watched helplessly. He was alone in the boat and was having trouble with his motor, and stood up to try to start it.

When the motor started the boat lurched, throwing Pieper into the water. He could not swim and witnesses were too far away to reach him in time.

The body was found at 5:30 p.m., after a dragging crew had worked since noon. He was about 1/4 mile off shore and about 30 feet from where he fell in.

Reuben Pieper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pieper, Loyal, was born May 13, 1924 at Loyal and lived there until 1946, when he moved to Milwaukee.

On Nov. 12, 1946 he was married to Marjorie Johnson, Owen. They have no children.

Funeral services were held at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal, on Tuesday, Aug. 26, the Rev. Alvin O. Pinke, Marshfield, officiated. He was laid to rest in the parish cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, his parents, four brothers, Frank Waverly, Iowa; Clarence, Loganville; John, Reedsburg; and Walter, Loyal; and three sisters, Mrs. Anthony (Edna) Cherney, Milwaukee; Evelyn, Mrs. Herman (Verna) Knuth, Loganville, and Mrs. Francis (Bertha) Cook, Loyal.
