Welzien, Mildred “Millie” L. (10 April 1924 - 1 August
2013) With Flag
Mildred “Millie” L. Welzien, age 89, of Cadott, passed
away on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the Chippewa Manor Nursing home.
Millie was born April 10, 1924, in Summitville, Indiana, the daughter of the
late Oral & Cesta (Daley) Hobbs. She grew up in Indiana and graduated from Lagro
High School in 1942. She then served in the medical Corps of the Women’s Army
Corps Service during World War II. On April 13, 1946, she was united in marriage
to Clarence Welzien. They spent their lives farming in the Greenwood and then
the Boyd area with Millie also working as a nurse for Victory Memorial Hospital
in Stanley and later at the Chippewa County Health Care Center, Chippewa Falls.
She was a former member of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Stanley, and currently
was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cadott. She loved to travel, spend
time with family and friends and was an avid reader.
Millie is survived
by her daughter, Nancy Florence of Minneapolis, MN; two sons: David (Nancy)
Welzien of Tigerton, WI, and Dan (Corazon) Welzien of San Antonio, TX; eight
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: Merrill Hobbs of Wabash,
Indiana, and Rex Hobbs of north Carolina; one sister: Janice (Les) Spencer of
Jacksonville, Florida; plus many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Clarence, in 2003; one son, Michael, in 1980; sisters:
Margaret Buroker and Wilma Holmes; and one brother, Richard Hobbs.
Services were held on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Plombon
Funeral Home in Stanley with Pastor Raymond Bell officiating. Burial followed in
the Riverside Cemetery, Withee. Visitation was Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. at
the Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley.
