Draeger, Irene Edith (9 February 1916 - 2013)

Irene Edith Draeger, formerly of rural Thorp, died Friday, August 2, 2013, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital. She was born on February 9, 1916, in Armstrong, Iowa, the daughter of the late George and Minnie (Krause) Mathews. Her family moved to the Town of Taft, Taylor County, when she was four years old and farmed there. Irene married Ervin Draeger on October 30, 1934. The family lived in the Mosinee area while Ervin was in the service and then moved to the farm in the Town of Taft in 1948.

Irene was a resident of the Clark County Health Care Center the past few years. She loved to garden, play cards, visit with family and friends, and she had an endless supply of coffee, donuts and cheese and crackers.

Irene is survived by her seven children: Delores (Otto) Fitzsimmons of Wausau, Ethel (George) Meeker of Stanley, Ervin Allen (Sue) Draeger of Wausau, Donald Draeger of Plains, MT, Lorraine (Michael) Nosko of Medford, Linda McCabe of Cleveland, WI and Terry Draeger of Osseo; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers: Charles, Myron, Dan and Allen Mathews; and sisters: Luella Michels and Grace Bowen.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday.
