Sweet, Rose E. (Russell) (7 JAN 1928 - 7 JUL 2013)

Rose E. Sweet, age 85, of Gilman, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Gilman Care Center.

Rose was born on January 7, 1928 at home in Jump River, the daughter of the late Edwin and Inga (Petersen) Russell. She grew up in Jump River, graduating from Hannibal High School in 1945. On June 11, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harry Sweet at the Presbyterian Manse in Hannibal.

They resided in Hannibal for 10 years before moving to Oconomowoc in 1956. In 1970, they moved back to the Hannibal area and resided there since. Rose was a member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Hannibal of which she was an active member of the Ladies Aide, and she also wrote the Town of Cleveland column for The Star News.

Rose is survived by her children, Barbara (James) Stephan of Waukesha, Susan Sweet of Medford, Colleen Sweet of St. Paul, Minn., Ronald (Sharon) Sweet of Weston, Randy (Cindy) Sweet of Jefferson and Mike Sweet of Burlington; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Helen Wachsmuth of Gilman, Ivan (Annette) Russell of Minneapolis, Minn., Betty Mae (Elmer) Dorova of Irma and Donald (Joan) Russell of Fridley, Minn.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry in 2001; daughters, Carol and Marilyn; one great-grandson; and her sister, Ethel.

Services will be held on Friday, July 12 at 11 a.m. at the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Hannibal, with Pastor Bradley Carloss officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Nebo Cemetery in Jump River. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to service time on Friday. Plombon Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
