At the stave mill they are putting in the boilers and engine, and expect to have the machinery all in place, ready to start up in three weeks. Bolts are coming in at the rate of 50 to 75 cords a day and they are getting some mammoth piles. The weekly payroll of this company during the winter has been in the neighborhood of $1,000 for bolts and labor, a fact that is known and appreciated by the businessmen.

H.W. Hunt, while out riding Monday forenoon with two of his children, had quite an adventure. The horse became frightened, reared and backed the cutter into the ditch, throwing Mr. Hunt out. In some manner he lost his hold of the reins, and his daughter Faye, who held her little brother on her lap and had kept her seat, had presence of mind enough to jump out as soon as the horse began to run, escaping uninjured. The horse was stopped before he had gone far.

Wm. Shanks of Castlewood, S.D., arrived in the city Tuesday on a visit to his brother, John, David, and Hugh.

Hon. James O'Neill of Neillsville has been appointed by Judge W.F. Bailey, prosecuting attorney in the Russell murder case at Eau Claire, the . Attorney, W.H. Frawley being disqualified.
