HOLD GRAVESIDE SERVICES HERE FOR VICTOR MAKI

The body of Victor J. Maki, one time Owen resident, was returned here for burial at Riverside Cemetery, Tuesday, June 16, with Rev. Lauri Isaacson, Pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, reading the final rites at the cemetery.  Funeral services were held earlier in the day at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Ironwood, Mich., with Rev. Hallberg officiating.  Three sons and three son-in-laws served as pallbearers.

Mr. Maki passed away June 13 at Grand View Hospital, Ironwood, Mich., where he was being treated after suffering a stroke.  However, despite his 83 years of age his health had been good until shortly before his death, as he was able to drive his car until three weeks ago.

Born October 30, 1880, in Soini, Finland, he spent much of his life time working the mines in northern Michigan.  For several years he resided in this community and farmed before returning to Ironwood, Mich., several years ago.

On February 12, 1909, he and  the late Louisa Lahti were united in marriage in a ceremony performed at Wakefield, Mich.  She passed away in 1943.  In 1945 he remarried , Amanda Remes, who survives as do three sons, Toivo and Arnold Maki, Lake Villa, Ill., and William Maki, Lake Bluff, Ill.; seven daughters, Vieno Peter and Lillian Cascarano, Lake Forest, Ill., Sylvia Kangas, Waukegan, Ill., Elsa Palmieri, Lake Bluff, Ill., Ruth Stritar, Lake Villa, Ill., Helvia Nixon, Oakland City, Ill., and Louise Smock, Fort Wayne, Ind.
