Heck, Eli John (15 March 1883 - 15 January 1969)

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home for Eli J. Heck, 85, of Rt.1 Greenwood, who died here Wednesday. The Rev. David Logue of the United Church in Greenwood officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Heck was born March 15, 1883, in Watertown. His parents were the late Louie and Bertha (Zickert) Heck. He came to Clark County with horse and buggy as a young man worked at various jobs, including the construction of Dells Dam, south of Neillsville. On May 3, 1906, he was married to Laura Neiderwerfer in Watertown. She died in September 1968.

He operated a farm in the Town of York for 30 years, and then moved onto the present Heck farm in the Town of Eaton. He served on the school board of the Oriole Hill School District for a number of years.

He is survived by three sons, Harvey, Erwin and Floyd, all of Greenwood; four sisters, Mrs. Rose Coughlin of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. John (Elsie) Weber of Watertown, Mrs. Arren (Irene) Potter of Lake Geneva and Mrs. Oscar (Elizabeth) Riedel of Milwaukee; a brother, Henry Heck of Ashippun; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were six grandsons: Harvey, Hareld, Benny, Terry, Sheldon and Tracy Heck. Kendall Smith sang, “The Lord is my Shepherd” and “Nearer My God to Thee” accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

People from out of town attending the service included: Mrs. Sylvester Weber, Mrs. and Mrs. John H. Weber, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Neiderwerfer and Richard, all of Watertown; Mrs. Oscar Riedel of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Treasure Loveland and Louis Neiderwerfer of Oconomowoc; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Neiderwerfer of Ft. Atkinson; and many from Willard, Greenwood and Loyal.
