Jones, Harold Charles (3 Feb. 1935 – 24 Feb. 1938)

Killed by Truck

Harold Charles Jones was born in Spencer, Wisconsin of February 3, 1935, and died on Thursday, February 24, 1938, about 4:15 P.M. following an automobile accident.

Harold was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jones and was in the yard of the home of his parents, with his sister, Joan and Dean Seitz. A load of coal was delivered to the Jones home by the Gateway Lumber company's truck, Delbert Hutchins being the driver. The truck was backed into the yard and the coal unloaded. Mr. Hutchins then looked all around the truck and seeing the three children standing together got in and drove out of the yard. Looking out of the window of the cab he observed Harold lying on the walk and immediately got out to go to the lad's assistance, arriving about the same time as the mother, and found the little fellow's head crushed. The little fellow had apparently jumped on the running board and fell off under the wheel.

Mr. Jones was notified and he was rushed to the Marshfield hospital but life was extinct when they arrived there.

Dr. Callahan was out of town, so Mrs. Callahan accompanied the Jones to the Marshfield hospital, and also notifying M. C. Blake and Coroner, A. H. Stahmer, who arrived in the evening and after making a thorough investigation and hearing the testimony of Mr. Harry Hermanson, who witnessed the accident, rendered a verdict of unavoidable accident, without calling a jury.

It was one of the saddest events that has happened in this community for some time. He is survived by his sister, Joan, 5 and David Lee, 10 mo *** Note: The rest of the article was missing.
