Kroening, Leon M. (1 May 1928 – 10 Dec. 2008)

STRATFORD -- Leon M. Kroening, 80, of C1710 Eau Pleine Road, Stratford, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Golden Living Center-Three Oaks.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stratford.

The visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until service time.

STRATFORD -- Leon M. Kroening, 80, of C1710 Eau Pleine Road, Stratford, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Golden LivingCenter-Three Oaks. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stratford, with the Rev. Thomas Rudolph officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the village of Stratford. Serving as pallbearers will be godsons, Kenneth Sitko, Tim Landwehr, Jerry Wurl, Jerry Masanz, Dennis Kroening and Jerry Kroening.

The visitation will be held today from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home in Stratford, and Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at St. Joseph's Church. A parish rosary service will be held today at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Kroening was born May 1, 1928, in the town of Cleveland, Marathon County, to Joseph and Mary (Ponczoch) Kroening. He attended Johnson Elementary School in the town of Cleveland and St. Joseph's Parochial School in Stratford. As a young man, he farmed in the town of Cleveland and then worked at Klemme Feed Mill, Stratford. He then became employed at Berg Implement, Marshfield, until his retirement in 1992.

Leon was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stratford. He had a fondness for animals, especially his dog and cats. He looked forward to family fish fries at his sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Orville Landwehr, after their return from Florida.

He is survived by six sisters, his twin sister, Loretta Masanz of Marshfield, Margaret Kroening of Marshfield, Helen Denee of Stratford, Dorothy (Leo) Geiger of Loyal, Marcella Sitko of Mosinee, and Agnes (Orville) Landwehr of Mosinee. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Jerome Sr., Melvin and Bernard Kroening; and two sisters, Marie Wurl and Irene Beyer.
