Hoops, Pauline (6 Oct. 1861 – 5 June 1934)

Mrs. John Hoops, who had been ill at her home in Spencer for the preceding five weeks died at St. Joseph's hospital, Marshfield, at 2:15 P.M. Tuesday, June 5, 1934. She was suffering from gall bladder trouble and developed pneumonia and passed away peacefully and unexpectedly with even the flutter of an eyelid. Her dear ones husband and children who were constantly at her beside hardly realized when the Death Angel removed her from this vale of tears to dwell with her Savior in that better land where death and tears have no place.

Pauline Natzke was born Oct. 6, 1861, in Washington County, Wisconsin. She was married to John Hoops Feb. 28, 1878. They came to Spencer community thirty-five years ago and it has since been their home. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary six years ago.

She was a faithful and loving wife and mother, a cheery and optimistic neighbor, seeing the loving hand of God even in her misfortunes and so lived that she was prepared to die.

They were the parents of thirteen children, the oldest and the youngest sons dying in infancy and a daughter, Sena Luepke, passed away Dec. 30, 1933. She leaves to mourn her death her bereaved and aged husband, five sons and five daughters: August, Martin and Ervin of Spencer; Henry of Moon, Herbert of Fond du Lac, Mrs. Albert (Lydia) Vanderhoof, Mrs. Wm. (Renada) Plath, Mrs. Harry (Sabina) Graham, Mrs. Frank (Elsie) Marten, all of Spencer and Mrs. Herman (Lela) Molle of Unity. Also the following near relatives: A sister, Mrs. Herman Schroeder of Wayside; four brothers, Gust Natzke of Merrill, Phillip Natzke of Ashippun and Albert Natzke of Waukegan, Ill. 32 grand children and four great grand children and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held Friday Afternoon from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Plath, and the Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer, Rev. A. C. Stapel officiating. She was laid to rest in the West Cemetery. Six grandsons and six granddaughter, one great granddaughter and two little nieces were pall bearers and flower girls.
