Fuller, Elmer J. (27 May 1920 - 8 July 2005)

OREGON - Elmer "Mannie" J. Fuller, 85, a former Stratford area resident, died Friday, July 8, 2005, at Nazareth House in Stoughton.

The Mass of Christian Burial was at Holy Mother of Consolation Church in Oregon on July 13, 2005, with the Rev. William Connell presiding.

He was born May 27, 1920, in the town of Eau Pleine in Marathon County to Frank and Anna (Wennes) Fuller. He received his education in the McArthur School and St. Joseph's Catholic School in Stratford. He later earned his G.E.D.

In November 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in India. When he received his honorable discharge, he had the rank of staff sergeant.

He and Louise Rawlings were married at St. Eulalia's Church in Maywood, Ill., on Nov. 23, 1946. In 1950, they moved to Saginaw, Mich., where he was employed by the Veteran's Administration Hospital. In 1966, he was transferred to Madison, retiring in 1975. Following retirement they moved to Roswell, N.M., where they lived for 25 years before returning to Wisconsin. Elmer enjoyed all sports but his favorite was golf. He had many interesting hobbies and also enjoyed playing his guitar. He had a beautiful voice and sang in the church choir in Roswell, many times as a soloist. He spent many hours doing wood carving. He also was a gardener and harvested pecans from the trees that grew in their yard. He also worked for H & R Block part-time.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Louise; and seven children, Pamela Fuller of Bellingham, Wash., Susan (Larry) Hoffman of Lawrenceville, Ga., Mary (Kent) Peterson of Stoughton, Rebecca ("Mouse") Haak of Brooklyn, Ellen (Will) Wormuth of Binghamton, N.Y., John (Judy) Fuller of Mineral Point and Joe Fuller of Hallestead, Pa.; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is further survived by one sister-in-law, Mae Fuller of Stratford and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and six sisters.
