Luepke, Emil Frederick Herman (11 Jan. 1911 - 13 Sept. 2008)

Emil F. Luepke, 97, formerly of Spencer, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at Golden Living Center Three Oaks in Marshfield.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Spencer. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16 ,at St. John's Lutheran Church and one hour before services.

Maurina-Schilling Funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements.

SPENCER -- Emil F. Luepke, 97, formerly of Spencer, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at the Golden Living Center Three Oaks in Marshfield. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at St. John's Lutheran Church, North Spencer. The Rev. Rebekah Tarras will officiate.

Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Marden, Burt Wells, Gary Grieser, Tom Fogarty, Don Hanson and Al Jicincky.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and again one hour before services Wednesday, both at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Emil Frederick Herman Luepke was born Jan. 11, 1911, to Frank and Sophie (Oelrich) Luepke, in the town of Brighton. Emil was baptized in St. John's Lutheran Church on Feb. 19, 1911. He attended St. John's Parochial, Brighton and Harding elementary schools. Emil was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church on May 25, 2008. Emil worked many jobs as a young man.

Emil married Norma Andre Sept. 26, 1934, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Emil was employed on the Fred Larson farm until 1936, when they purchased a farm east of Spencer in the town of Brighton where he cleared the land and farmed until 1959 when they bought a house in Spencer. Emil worked as a mill hand and trucker for the Farmers Co-op and Spencer Farm Supply until his retirement in 1977. Emil and Norma then bought a new home on the east side of Spencer.

Emil and Norma celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 1984, 60th in 1994 and their 70th in 2004. Emil was a life long member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he held various offices and attended the men's Bible study group. He was a member of Spencer Senior citizens. Emil was a sports enthusiast as well as an avid gardener. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling and being with family.

Emil is survived by his children, Frank (Carol) Luepke of Sheldon, Iowa, David (Doreen) Luepke of Edgar, Cora (Tom) Wright Concord, Calif., and Philip (Julie) Luepke, Stoddard; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Emil was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma, on June 14, 2008; a son, Richard; three brothers, Walter, George and Herman Luepke; and a sister Milda Rindfleisch.
