Hiles, George B. (16 May 1927 - 16 May 2008)

George B. Hiles, Wausau, passed away at the age of 81 on the same day of his birth, May 16, 2008, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services of Marywood Convalescent Center, Wausau.

George was born May 16, 1927, in Argonne to the late George and Anna (Hansen) Hiles. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. George married Edith Joyce Deaton on May 15, 1948, in Wabeno. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.

For many years he managed Cirilli's Super Value, Wausau. George then owned George's Marathon Foods in Marathon until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church where, in his earlier years, George ushered and helped in starting the new church on Stevens Drive. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Edith, Wausau; one son, George W. (Susan) Hiles II, Wausau; and two granddaughters, Melissa (Daniel) Flees and Jennifer Hiles. George was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Rev. Bruce Lamont presided.

Entombment was in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation was from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the church.

Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, assisted the family with arrangements. Memorials may be directed to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 600 Stevens Drive, Wausau, WI 54401.
