Fochs, Hubert J. (15 Sept. 1918 - 21 June 2008)

Hubert J. Fochs, 89, Wausau, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2008, at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in King.

He was born Sept. 15, 1918, in Hedgeville, MT to the late John and Margaret (Krings) Fochs. On Nov. 7, 1942, Hubert married Delores Bergs at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski.

He was a veteran of WWII serving from 1941 until 1945. Hubert served in General Patton's 3rd Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge and Normandy Beach. He was a lifetime member of VFW Burns Post #388 and a member of the Battle of the Bulge and the Disabled American Veterans. In his younger years, Hubert farmed in the town of Rietbrock, was a milk inspector, and retired as a semi truck driver. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a volunteer driver for Social Services. He enjoyed traveling out west, playing cards, and cooking. Hubert was an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church as an usher, Eucharistic Minister, and volunteer.

Survivors include one son, Michael (Diane) Fochs of Aniwa; two daughters, Sharon (Kenneth) Klewicki of Fond du Lac, Janice (Jerome) Sliwicki of Edgar; nine grandchildren, Scott (Ann Marie) Klewicki, Joseph (Tanae) Klewicki, Amy Klewicki, Ryan (Cherie) Klewicki, Paul Sliwicki, Kevin (Susan) Sliwicki, Brenda Sliwicki, Tammy (Greg) Steber and Laurie (Chris) Johnson; 14 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Francis (Ellen) Fochs of Wausau, and Lucian (Dorothy) Fochs of Merrill.

Hubert was preceded in death by Delores on Nov. 5, 2002; and two brothers, Fredrich and Roman.

The funeral mass was celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 24, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Wausau. Father Robert Thorn presided. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Edgar. Visitation was Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Helke Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
