Hoops, Wilbur Viemer (2 Oct. 1918 - 7 July 1989)

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Rembs/Kundinger Chapel for former Spencer resident Wilbur Viemer Hoops, 70, who died at 3:28 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Hospital Emergency Room.

The Rev. William H. Ruhbusch, of Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David, Elroy and Michael Huber, Dick Meiners, Robert Morrow and Edward Erdmanczyk.

Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by American Legion Post No. 54 of Marshfield. Visitation will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel and again on Monday until service time. A prayer service will be at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

He was born Oct. 2, 1918, in Spencer, a son of the late August and Elizabeth Hoops. He attended Spencer Elementary and High schools and the former Stevens Point State Teachers College. He married Margaret J. Smith Nov. 23, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer. She survives. After his education, Mr. Hoops taught for one year. He then was employed by several dairy plants in the Spencer and Marshfield areas. He later operated a Morning Glory milk route in the Spencer and Marshfield areas. He then was employed by Land O'Lakes, Spencer, until he became ill in 1984. He entered Marshfield Living Center on April 17, 1984.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy from Dec. 17, 1943, to April 4, 1946. He was a member of Trinity Church, Spencer, and a former member of the Spencer American Legion Post and Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving besides his wife, are one son, Darrell W. Hoops of Rockford, Ill.; one daughter, Cheryl A. Hoops of Marshfield; one sister, Mrs. Laura Wry of Spencer; and three grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.
