Scherf, Sabin C. (1 October 1894-3 July 1983)

WITHEE-- Sabin C. Scherf, 88, of Withee was dead on arrival Sunday at the Owen Medical Center of an apparent Heart attack he suffered at home.

Services will be Thursday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee. The Rev. Peter Thomsen will officiate, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Withee.

Visitation will be at the Maurina Funeral Home, Withee with Masonic services.

He was born October 1, 1894 in Wilmot, to Mr. and Mrs. Louis (Charlotte Sabin) Scherf. In 1901 he moved with his parents to the Town of Hixon, and attended Withee High School.

He married Emma Remly on April 14, 1934 in Milltown; she survives. They farmed in the Town of Hixon until 1938, where he served as town chairman, and then moved to the Town of Longwood. They farmed there until 1959, and he also served as town treasurer. In 1977 they moved to the Village of Withee.

He was a veteran of World War I; a 60-year member of Van-Huizen-Fritz American Legion Post No. 123 of Owen, of which he was past commander; a member of the Owen Masonic Lodge for more that 50 years, and also was past master; and served as past sentinel of the Owen Easter Star.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Emma Louise Heins of Sacramento, California, and Mrs. Natalie Ann Shelton of Chicago; three sons, Louis of Harriman, Tennessee, and twins, Frank and Thomas, both of East Moline, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Emaline Parkinson of Mosinee, and Natalie Scherf of Withee.

He was predeceased by his parents, two grandsons and two brothers.
