Clara Henchen ‘Woman of the Year’ (1980)

A retired nurse, Clara Henchen, was honored at the October 4 meeting of the Neillsville Business and Professional Women’s Club as “Woman of the Year.”

Mrs. Henchen was honored by members of B&PW as well as by her great niece, Cheryl Henchen, who is now a registered nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire. Cheryl told members of the inspiration that her great aunt had given her in the field of nursing.

A number of friends and relatives of Mrs. Henchen attended the meeting. Present were Elsie Turenne and Eva Kronberg, both of Thorp; Doris Diercks, Robert Henchen and Clarabelle Djubenski, all of Greenwood; Clarence Henchen, Loyal; and Cheryl Henchen, Eau Claire.

Attending from Neillsville were Julia Henchen, Mr./Mrs. Louie Henchen, Mr/Mrs. Wilbert Henchen, Mr./Mrs. Leo Henchen, Mr./Mrs. Herb Henchen, Carol Schaub, JoAnn Short, Hazel Hubing, Neva Yorkston, Mrs. Bohdan Halushka, Elizabeth Crothers, Edna Georgas, Ruth Ebert, Helena Turville, Irma Stucki, Ella Stucki, Mrs. John Mattson, Ellen Johnson, Joan Wavrunek, Paula Mueller, Betty Noah, Esther Dankemeyer and Faye Gregorio.

Also attending the meeting were Sonja Bjork, who gave a presentation on the probation and parole system in Wisconsin, and Dr. Neelagaru of the Neillsville Clinic who spoke to the group on heart attacks.
