Wilcox, Lansing A. (3 MAR 1846 - 29 SEP 1951)

Lansing A. Wilcox, Wisconsin’s last surviving veteran of the Civil War, is dead.

The old veteran, who celebrated his 105th birthday on March 3rd of this year, passed away Saturday at the Grand Army Home at King, Wis.

His death whittled don to five the number of the nation’s survivors of the Boys in Blue.

Wilcox went to King 18 months ago from his farm home near Cadott (Chippewa Co., Wis.) when his health began to fail. Until recently the old soldier was able to sit up in his wheelchair and he personally greeted delegations from various veterans’ organizations on his birthday last March.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Grand Army Home with Rev. Ralph R. Holliday, Chaplain, presiding. From there the body was borne to Cadott with Wis. National Guard escort. After services at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Cadott High School Auditorium, Wilcox was buried in the Cadott Cemetery with a GAR military ritual at the graveside. Rev. Wm. Warner officiated.
