CELEBRATED GOLDEN WEDDING YESTERDAY

Mr. and Mrs. C. W. E. Sommermeyer at their home, 703 South Farwell St., during the afternoon and evening yesterday held an informal reception in honor of their golden wedding anniversary.

Charles W. Edward Sommermeyer and Miss Sophie Charlotte Huebner were married Sept. 5th, 1862, in Columbia Co., Wis., in the little stone church at Leedʼs Corners, by Rev. Preuss. Their native home was in Gardelegen, Germany, Mr. Sommermeyer coming to America in Sept. 1858, and with his brother, Henry Sommermeyer, engaging in the mercantile business at North Bristol near Madison, Wis. Miss Sophie Huebner followed her betrothed four years later, coming from Gardelegen to North Bristol in 1862, shortly before her marriage. They came to Eau Claire in 1862, Mr. Sommermeyer with his brother being one of our pioneer merchants for many years, also being an owner of the Elk Lake Mill. They have lived for forty-five years in their present home on Farwell St. always surrounded by a large family and are known among their friends as being always hospitable and ready for company. Their family circle has never been broken and today they have with them all their children and three grand children. They are Misses Charlotte and Helene Sommermeyer, Dr. E. F. Sommermeyer, Mrs. Willis Chappell, Mrs. B. F. Sweezy of Billingham, Minn., and Masters Edward Chappell and Frederick Sommermeyer and Miss Helene Sommermeyer Jr.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Huebner of Minneapolis are here, Mr. Huebner being a brother of Mrs. Sommermeyer and formerly associated with the Sommermeyer brothers in business in Eau Claire.

The bride of fifty years ago is still a happy bride today and arrayed in her wedding gown of black taffeta silk with white lace trimmings, also wearing a very pretty pair of white ivory carved bracelets given her by the bridegroom fifty-four years ago.

In Germany all brides wear a myrtle wreath on their head, hence Mrs. Sommermeyer today was crowned by her children with a wreath of gold leaf myrtle as a tribute of their love.
