John Plier (11 Feb 1864 – 15 Mar 1952)
The Rev. Father Michael J. Kelnhofer officiated at funeral services for John
Plier, 88, in St. Louis Catholic church here (Dorchester, WI) Tuesday, March 18,
at 9 a. m., with burial taking place in Dorchester Memorial cemetery.
Pallbearers were Henry Rau, Paul Tischendorf, Richard Schmidt, Peter Schumacher,
Nick Schumacher, and Henry Gruny. Fuchsgruber Funeral Service had charge of
arrangements.
Mr. Plier died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lucille Vandervort, in
Milwaukee, Saturday morning about 10 o'clock. Death was attributed to cancer and
his advanced age. The deceased was brought here Monday morning, and lay in state
at the local funeral parlors, where a rosary service was held Monday at 8 p. m.
John Plier was born in Belgium on Feb. 11, 1864, and came to the United States
when 25 years old, settling at Kimberly, this state. There he and Miss Anna
Beaver were married in 1891, and made their home for 10 years. In 1901 they
moved to this community, onto a farm a mile north and a mile east of the
village, where they resided until their retirement in 1931. Mrs. Plier died in
June of 1936, at their home here in the village, where he continued to reside
for about 10 years more, then going to Milwaukee to make his home with his
daughter.
Eight Children Survive. Survivors include three sons and five daughters, George
Plier, Marshfield; Frank Plier, Schiller Park, Ill.; Francis Plier, Franklin
Park, Ill.; Mrs. Oscar (Marguerite) Lilyroth, Bay City, Mich.; Mrs. Katherine
Bartsch, Marshfield; Mrs. Carl (Mary) Husan, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. John
(Laura) Simsteadt, Bay City, Mich., and Mrs. Lucille Vandervort, Milwaukee.
Twenty-two, grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren also survive.
Two daughters and a son preceded their father in death.
All the childreu were here for the funeral, and others from out-of-town included
Mr. and Mrs. Archie Lilyroth, Ashland; Donald and Robert May, Chicago, Ill.;
Mrs. Edwin Rolands, Pardeeville; Mr. and Mrs. John Wolf and Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Bell, Marshfield.
