Colby, James R. (3 January 1892 - 18 October 1968)

Funeral services were held in Loyal Monday afternoon for James R. Colby, 76, president of the Citizens State Bank of Loyal, with which he had been associated for 57 years. Death came on October 18, in Marshfield from pneumonia.

Mr. Colby served for 30 years as cashier and executive Vice President of the Citizens State Bank. He was highly respected in his community and beyond.

Mr. Colby was born in Crystal Lake, Ill., on January 3, 1892. When a child he went with his parents to Loyal, where they operated a general store. After graduation from La Crosse Business College, Mr. Colby operated the family store with a brother for a time, and then joined the staff of the Citizens State Bank in 1911. In 1963, he was one of a small handful of bankers to receive recognition for 50 years of banking from the Wisconsin Bankers Association.

On October 12, 1912, he was married in Loyal to the former Mina White, who died in 1951. He was married in Viroqua in December, 1951, to the former Della Olson, who survives.

In addition to Mrs. Colby, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Albert (Virginia) Anderson of Augusta; a son, Richard of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Raymond of Mandeville, La.; and by two sisters, Mrs. Florence Dahl of Wichita Falls, Tex., and Mrs. Emma Johnson of Sebeka, Minn.
