Degener, Hulda Agnes (23 December 1874 - 23 June 1968)

Hulda Agnes Degener, 93, of Memorial Home in Neillsville, died here Sunday. Funeral services were held Wednesday from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiating. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Degener, the former Hulda Walters, was born December 23, 1874, in the Town of Washburn. She attended rural schools of the area and worked as a dressmaker in Neillsville. Later she clerked in the Walk Bros. Store. She was married January 30, 1901, in Neillsville to Albert Degener, who died in 1958. They operated a hardware store in Chili until 1926, then moved to Neillsville and ran a hardware store here until 1938, when they retired. They resided at 24 Grand Ave. For the last five years Mrs. Degener had resided in Memorial Home.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Melvin Lange of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Pauline Belden of Dickinson, N. D.; four grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Degener was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Hulda Degener, 93, of Memorial Home, were held June 26 from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Mrs. Degener died here June 23.

Pallbearers were: August Selk, Tom Flynn, Gerald Dankemyer, Leon Metcalf, Richard Albrecht and Leslie Walters. Victor Lehmann was the organist.

People from out-of-town here for the service were: Mrs. Melvina Lange, Mrs. Walter Lange and Mrs. James Winchester of St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Dana F. Wells and daughter, Vivian jean, of Denver, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Valen Vaitkus of Cudahy; Mrs. Dennis Hotchkiss of Eau Claire; Paul Bartell of Wisconsin Rapids; Miss Marilyn Randall and Mrs. Ralph Okray of Madison; Misses Perle and Daphne Beeckler of Granton; and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Walters of Marshfield.
