Greengrass, Vera Marie (17 December 1946 30 October 2008)

Vera (Douglas) Marie Greengrass, 61, of Black River Falls passed away Thursday, October 30, 2008, at Black River Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls, under the care of Black River Hospice.

Vera Marie Creapeau was born December 17, 1946, in Keshena to Evelyn Frances Creapeau and Glenn Warrington. She was raised in Milwaukee where she attended high school.

She married Douglas G. Greengrass in 1971 in Milwaukee. The couple later settled in Black River Falls.

Vera was employed for 15 years as a machinist at Northern Engraving, Sparta, employed by the Ho-Chunk Nation for seven years and by Leeson Manufacturing of Black River Falls for eight years.

She was a member of the Andrew Blackhawk American Legion Post 129 Auxiliary Unit. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, doing puzzles and watching TV.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas; three daughters, Christine (George) Wechter of New Washington, OH, and Gwyn Greengrass and Willette Greengrass, both of Black River Falls; four sons, Ed Creapeau and Warrington Greengrass, both of Black River Falls, Troy Netzel of Shorewood and Edgar (Tina) Murr of Memphis, TN; 14 grandchildren; three sisters, Verna (Levi) Blackdeer of La Crosse, Kathy Snow of Black River Falls and Karen Snow of Wittenburg; a brother, Edward (Margaret) Snow of Keshena; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Newlyn H. Greengrass.

Traditional Ho-Chunk Services were held each evening (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) at the Andrew Blackhawk American Legion Post #129, W9802 Airport Rd. Black River Falls.

The funeral was held Sunday, November 2, 2008, at noon also at the Andrew Blackhawk American Legion Post. Louisa DeCora and Andrew Thundercloud presided over services. Burial will follow in Decorah Cemetery.

Family and friends were invited for visitation Saturday, November 1, 2008, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, and Sunday from 10 a.m. until services at the Andrew Blackhawk American Legion Post. The Andrew Blackhawk American Legion Post #129 Auxiliary Unit held a service Saturday, November 1, 2008, 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to Black River Hospice.
