Geraldine “Gerry” Gilbertson, 65, of Hixton passed away at her home Tuesday, March 30, 2010.
Gerry was born Feb. 13, 1945, to Elmer and Nettie (Johnson) Rochester in Shamrock. She was raised in the Black River Falls and Shamrock areas and graduated from Black River Falls High School.
She was united in marriage April 25, 1964, to Paul Gilbertson in Shamrock. Paul preceded her in death July 6, 2000.
Gerry worked at the Hixton Egg Station and also the Quick Mart and Cenex in Hixton. She also owned her own store where she sold crafts.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, crafts, cooking, pets, her dog ‘Copper,’ playing cards with her granddaughter Amber, bird watching and talking with her grandson, Nathan, during his frequent visits. She was a great grandmother and mother. Gerry always looked forward to the holidays, a time when she could spoil her grandkids.
Gerry is survived by her daughters, Becky Gilbertson of Lake Crystal, MN, Debbie (Todd) Poirier of Bloomer and Sherry (Mark) Ebert of Hixton; her son, Scott (Amy) Gilbertson of Hixton; grandchildren, Nathan and Amber Gilbertson and Miranda Poirier; step-grandchildren, Dalton and Cordell Ebert; brothers and sisters Mabel Lambert of Warrens, Loretta Stetzer of Melrose, Louise Schlintz of Bangor, LaVern (Anton) Blazek of Merrillan, Beverly Rochester of Warrens, Diane (Arnold) Demaske of Ettrick and Louis (Luann) Rochester of Black River Falls; sister-in-law, Alice Rochester as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents, Elmer and Nettie; her granddaughter, Kasey Ann Poirier; and brothers, Donald and Robert Rochester.
Funeral services for Geraldine “Gerry” Gilbertson were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Hixton, with Reverend John Kaplinski officiating. Burial took place in the Sechlerville Cemetery, rural Hixton. Friends called at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Saturday.
Casketbearers were: Randy Blazek, J. J. Demaske, Jordan Demaske, Nathan Gilbertson, Nick Helstad, Randy Lindberg, Rick Rochester and Todd Yahnke.
