Person, Alice M. (8 April 1913 – 23 October 2009)

Alice M. (Lund) Person died at the Osseo Area Hospital and Nursing Home Friday, Oct. 23, 2009.

She was born April 8, 1913, in Winona, MN, to Martin Lund and Amanda Westegard Lund.  During her childhood, her family lived in Winona and Levis, Town of Garfield, Jackson County.  She graduated from Lincoln High School, Osseo, and received a two-year degree in education from the Eau Claire State Teachers College, Eau Claire.  She taught at Requa, and Levis near Osseo; Shady Glen, near Black River Falls; and Fairchild Elementary School, Fairchild.

She married C. Albin Person June 2, 1938.  They farmed in the Town of Cleveland.  In the summers, Alice helped cook at neighbors’ farms when Albin operated his threshing machine and large farm equipment.

In the late ‘50s, Alice and Albin were asked to work at Camp Augustana, a Bible Camp near Lake Geneva.  While Albin and his crew kept the camp’s buildings and grounds in excellent condition, Alice supervised the camp’s office, cooked and cleaned.  They made a profound impact on hundreds of families, children and camp staff.

They returned to Osseo after 10 years.  Alice became the bookkeeper at the Osseo Area Hospital.  She and Albin were very involved in church and community activities.  Alice and Albin’s house was “home” to anyone who walked in the door.  Alice nursed Albin until he died in 1986.  Her mother, her brother, her uncle and so many other family members and friends were looked after by Alice, too.

Alice wrote Christmas, Thanksgiving and end-of-school plays while teaching. She wrote stories and poetry for Anniversaries and birthdays.  She presented readings and speeches at area church meetings, community events and family celebrations.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Albin; her parents; her brothers, Lester and Wilbur Lund; sisters, Ruth Harding and Mildred White; one niece; and one great-nephew.

She is survived by her sister, Lillian McManners; nine nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and numerous family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at South Beef River Lutheran Church, rural Osseo, with Reverend Linda Marlett officiating.  Burial will be in Levis Cemetery, Town of Garfield, of Jackson County.

Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday. Alice preferred memorials be directed to Levis Cemetery or South Beef River Lutheran Church.

Schiefelbein Funeral Home, Osseo, is assisting the family.
