Lund, Alice Margaret (6 March 1914 – 6 October 2009)

Alice Margaret Lund passed away Oct. 6, 2009, at Pine View Care Center in Black River Falls at the age of 95.

She was born March 6, 1914, in Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Reverend Sylvester M. Orwoll and Anna (Dahl) Orwoll.  She was married Oct. 28, 1936, in Minneapolis, MN, to Ralph S. Lund.  They moved soon afterwards to Black River Falls, where Ralph practiced law and served as district attorney, mayor and school board clerk of the Black River Falls School District.  He died May 24, 1972.

During her life, Alice was very active in the Evangelical Lutheran Church.  She volunteered thousands of hours working as a Hospital Auxiliary member, serving as treasurer, visiting patients, answering phones, guiding tours and providing snacks for the hospital staff. She loved to provide Norwegian foods for family and friends, especially cookies, Lefse and flatbread. She was one of the coordinators of Lifeline.  For a number of years, she also installed and maintained the Lifeline service.  At times, she provided housing in her home across the street from the hospital for medical students, pharmacy students, a doctor and one hospital administrator.

She is survived by her children David (Judy) Lund, Eleva, John (Sharon) Lund, Black River Falls, Anna (Donald) Sime, Mexico, and Thomas (Jill) Lund, Roseville, MN; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren. She was a great mom and will be missed by all of us.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her four brothers and one sister.  Private family graveside funeral services will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls.

Public memorial funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Black River Falls.  Pastor Ramie Bakken will officiate.

Relatives and friends may call at the church Thursday, Oct. 22, from noon until the time of services.

Memorials may be given to the Black River Memorial Hospital Partners, the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Ralph and Alice Lund Scholarship Fund, c/o the Black River Area Foundation.
