Nemec, Sylvia Violet (1 July 1911 – 4 December 2008)

Sylvia V. Nemec, 97, of Black River Falls died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, in Pine View Care Center, Black River Falls.

Sylvia Violet Antos was born July 1, 1911, in Lankin, ND, to John and Julia (Ruzic) Antos. As a young woman, she moved to the Town of Komensky, Jackson County, with her family.

She married Elmer C. Nemec April 10, 1935, in Black River Falls. The couple farmed in the Town of Albion, Jackson County, for many years. Elmer Nemec died Nov. 15, 2001. Sylvia entered Pine View Care Center in October of 2000.

As a young woman, she was employed as a domestic and a cook in North Dakota.

Sylvia was a member of the Black River Falls United Methodist Church and was a 50-year member of the ZCBJ Lodge Rotalest 196 of Black River Falls. She had been a 4-H leader and exhibited her sewing and flowers at the Jackson County Fair for many years – winning many best of show awards. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and baking.

Survivors include a daughter, Arlene Bonetti of Colorado Springs, CO; two sons, Edward Nemec and Larry (Sharon) Nemec, both of Black River Falls; five grandchildren, Anna (Robert) Becker of Black River Falls, Dena (Jeff) Bream of Colorado Springs, CO, Tonya Bonetti of Mission Viejo, CA, Laura (John) Nolan of Sun Prairie and Jennifer Nemec of Marshfield; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Becker, David Becker and Andrew Nolan; a sister, Lillian Marek of Wausau; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Elmer, Sylvia was preceded in death by a grandson, Rick Bonetti; a daughter-in-law, Sue Nemec; a son-in-law, Richard “Dick” Bonetti; a brother, Frank Antos; and a sister, Stasia Peach.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at the Buswell Funeral Home, and burial was in Riverside Cemetery, both in Black River Falls. Rev. Meg Erickson officiated.

Family and friends were invited for visitation from noon until 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Black River Falls United Methodist Church.
