La Verne R. Hart, 92, of La Crosse and formerly of Black River Falls died Thursday, March 12, 2009, in her home.

La Verne Ruth Hansen was born August 23, 1916, in the town of Irving, Jackson County, to Thomas and Maude Ann (Oligney) Hansen. She was raised in the town of Irving.

She married Ervin Wilson Hart in October 1948 in Black River Falls. The couple lived in Black River Falls all of their married lives. Ervin Hart died on Feb. 28, 198l. La Verne has lived in La Crosse with her daughter, Sara, for the past three years.

La Verne was employed as a nursing assistant at Pine View Care Center for 26 years.

She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Black River Falls. La Verne enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, flower gardening, collecting salt and pepper shakers, and feeding birds.

Survivors include three daughters, Diane (Scott) VanVleet of Marinette, Wis., Patricia (Thomas) Harrelson of West Salem, and Sara Hart of La Crosse; six grandchildren, Melissa (Christopher) Rude, Angela (Dean) Wanless, Kelly (Ben Bringe) Harelson, Julie Gregory (Johnson) VanVleet, Eric VanVleet and Kristin VanVleet; two great-grandchildren, Molly Wanless and Madie Wanless; a brother, Wayne (Betty) Hansen of Merrillan, Wis.; a brother-in-law, Ben (Kathleen) Hart of Alma Center, Wis.; a sister-in law, Berniece Hansen of Black River Falls; and numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, La Verne was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Marcella Rockney, Frances Odenbreit, Edna Dalby and Marion Christianson; and four brothers, Russell Hansen, Stephen Hansen, Vernon Hansen and Warren Hansen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 16, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, both in Black River Falls. The Rev. John Steiner will officiate.

Family and friends are invited for visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until services. There will be a public prayer service at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 407 Main St., Black River Falls, WI 54615.
