Melvin Arthur Mel Peterson, 59, of Kenosha passed away peacefully with his family by his side Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 22, 1950, to the late Arthur M. and Angeline E. (Sleeter) Peterson in Black River Falls.
He entered the U. S. Marines Nov. 26, 1968, and was honorably discharged Nov. 11, 1972.
Mel married Judith R. Principe Oct. 9, 1971, at St. James Catholic Church. He worked as a pipe fitter at the American Brass for 27 years and for seven years at Daimler Chrysler.
He was a member of the Local UAW #72, a member of the American Legion and served on several veterans committees. He also volunteered as a soccer coach with the KASL and CYC. He was an avid Packer fan, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Mel is survived by his wife Judith R. of Kenosha; his son Travis Peterson of Tempe, AZ; his daughter, Amanda Peterson of Kenosha; one brother, Robert (Neeny) Peterson; and his four sisters, Pauline (Bob) Byers, Lois Johnson, Karen (Mike) Wolf, and Judy Maassen.
He is preceded in death by his siblings Ronald Peterson, Phyllis Peterson, Betty Person, Ann Anderson and Theo Heintz.
Funeral services for Melvin were held Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Bruch Funeral Home, Kenosha. Visitation was held Saturday, from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment with full military honors was held Monday, March 2, at 1 p.m. at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
