Ensley, Georgia B. (27 May 1916 – 15 February 2009)

Georgia B. Ensley, 92, of Black River Falls died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, in the Family Heritage Care Center in Black River Falls, where she had been a resident since October of 2006.

Georgia was born May 27, 1916, in Black River Falls to Wilbur J. and Berdine C. (Bouvran) Meek.

She graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1934. Georgia married Earnest E. “John” Ensley Jan. 2, 1969, in Clayton County IA. The couple lived on a farm in the Town of Irving, Jackson County, where they raised pheasants, sheep, Charolais cattle and chickens.

John preceded his wife in death Aug. 6, 2007.

For 35 years Georgia was a cook and food service supervisor at the former Krohn Clinic and Hospital and at the Black River Memorial Hospital.

Her hobbies were fishing, bird watching and listening to music. She was especially fond of music by Nat King Cole, Willie Nelson, Ted Lewis and the Ink Spots.

Surviving are her two daughters, Barbara (Barry) Winrich, Amherst Junction, and Berdine (James) Schuck, Leslie, MO; her sister, Laurian Strater, Rantoul, IL; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and three nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Fred Strater, and a great-grandson, Adam Zick.

Memorial funeral services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls.
