Murphy, Ruth M. (21 January 1919 – 22 January 2009)

Ruth M. Murphy, 90, of Sparta died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare, Sparta.

She was born on Jan. 21, 1919, in Jenkins Valley, Monroe County, to Robert and Ester (Livingood) Ebert. She grew up in the Town of Little Falls and attended the Jenkins Valley and Cataract schools.

Ruth worked at the Christian Youth Camp at Fall Hall Glen near Shamrock. She married Dennis Murphy June 28, 1941, at the Little Glass Church. She worked at Northern Engraving in La Crosse, Band Box Cleaners and then started working as a CNA at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center in the late 1960s and worked until she retired in 1982.

She is survived by a son, Robert (Linda) Murphy of Sparta; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Tony) Maneotis of Craig, CO, and their children, Mathew and Mackenzie, Allison (Dwaine) Chesser of Craig, CO, and their children, Katlyn and Reed, Becky (Avery) Windsor of Sparta, and their children, Jessica, Rion and Emily and Jacob (Tracy) Murphy of Melrose and their child, Saige; a sister, Elizabeth Green of Sparta; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Ebert of Sparta.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dennis in 1988; a brother, Richard; and a grandson, Robert John Murphy, Jr.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Cataract, with Reverend Lon Jury officiating. Burial was in the Shamrock Cemetery, Shamrock.
