Berndt, Erwin M. (17 November 1909 – 9 January 2002)

Erwin M. Berndt, 92, of Black River Falls, died Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at Pine View Nursing home in Black River Falls.

He was born November 17, 1909 in Hartford, the son of Herman and Johannah (Troeller) Berndt. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1928. In 1931 Mr. Berndt received a degree in Mortuary Science and began his funeral service career. He was associated with his brothers Harold, Alvin and Robert. The Berndt family operated funeral homes in Hartford, Hustisford and Juneau. He married Dolores Giese on June 27, 1937. In 1957, Mr. Berndt made his home in Juneau.

Mr. Berndt was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Juneau. He served St. John’s Lutheran Church in various capacities and sang in the church choir for over 60 years. He was also a member of both the Wisconsin and National Funeral Directors Association.

Mr. Berndt is survived by one daughter, Margaret Mary (Vernon) Severson of Black River Falls; two grandchildren, Jon (Caroline) Severson of St. Louis Park, MN and Amanda (Dr. Thomas) Falloon of St. Cloud, MN; one great grandson, Soren Falloon of St. Cloud, MN; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dolores on June 13, 1984; one daughter Carolyn Kathryn on July 17, 1964; four brothers Harold, Norbert, Alvin, and Robert.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 12th at Peace Lutheran Chruch, Hartford at 2 p.m. Rev. Daniel Westendorf and Rev. Thomas Biedenbender officiated. Burial took place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.

Visitation was on Saturday, Jan. 12th at Peace Lutheran Church, Hartford from 11 a.m. until the 2 p.m. service.

Memorials may be directed to Peace Lutheran Chruch, Hartford or St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Juneau.
