VROOM TALMADGE, contractor and builder, was born in Morris Co., N. J., in 1829; learned the trade of wheelwright at seventeen years of age, and was for some years in wheelwrighting business in company with his father, Elias C. Talmadge. He came to Grand Rapids, Wis., in 1855, and for past twenty years has been engaged building mills, elevators, etc., in different States; has been for the past four years in the employ of the Chase Elevator Co., of Chicago, Ill., as superintendent of the building of elevators, etc.; has, since May, 1881, been engaged superintending the building of the Omaha Union Elevator, "B," at Omaha, Neb. Mr. Talmadge was married in Morris Co., N. J., in 1852, to Elizabeth Davenport, native of that place. They have two children, Francis, foreman for his father, and Ellis, superintendent of planing mill at Grand Rapids.
