Neumann, Dorothy A. (Borchers) (23 FEB 1925 - 10 AUG 2019)
Dorothy A. Neumann, age 94, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at The
Waterford under the tender care of hospice.
Dorothy was born on February 23, 1925, the daughter of William and Clara
(Riedel) Borchers in Chicago, IL. She received an education degree from
Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL, in 1946 and was among the
first women to graduate from that institution. Dorothy was united in
marriage to George Neumann on December 28, 1946, in Chicago, after a
three-year correspondence during WW2.
Dorothy (“Mom” and “Oma”) is remembered for her infectious laughter,
especially during games of Uno with her grandchildren and celebrating
unbirthdays. Mom loved chocolate and ice cream. She was a compassionate
teacher, who saw the potential in every child who came through her
classrooms in Illinois and California. Dorothy and George (“Schatzie”) were
avid travelers and loved to craft jewelry together. Her relationship with
Jesus was the center of her life, expressed through involvement in small
group Bible studies, teaching confirmation classes for special needs
students, and her generosity to others.
Dorothy is survived by her four sons: Paul (Jenny) of Spokane, WA, Rev. Mark
(Joan) of Colby, WI, Joel (Brenda) of Chicago, IL, and Philip (Rosalyn Voget)
of Mill Valley, CA; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Herb;
and three grandchildren.
The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is entrusted with the local
arrangements. A graveside service will be held in Greenwood Memorial Park in
San Diego on Saturday, August 31, 2019.
