Nieman, Donald (16 Oct. 1922 - 21 Nov. 2008)

Donald Nieman, formerly of Platteville, recently of Wisconsin Rapids, left this earthly home Fri., Nov. 21, 2008.

Donald was born Oct. 16, 1922, in the town of Rudolph to Arthur and Mary (O'Connor) Nieman. He married Ila Hoge on Nov. 27, 1943.

Donald is survived by his wife, Ila, the love of his life for 65 years; three sons, Gary (Beverly) Nieman, Arpin, James (Kathy) Nieman, Spencer, and Douglas (Karlye) Nieman, Elk Mound; five daughters, Mary Boor, Wrightstown, Molly (Richard) Kuehnhold, Wisconsin Rapids, Joyce (Alvin) Vik, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jean Notaro, Tacoma, Wash., and Debra (Steven) Yerke, Pittsville; 29 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Donald farmed the family farm in Rudolph for many years, while also working at the Biron paper mill. For the last 20 years, he was the minister for the Platteville Church of Christ, which he described as the "joy of his life." He was determined to serve God until he died. His children and grandchildren will remember him not only as a faithful servant and preacher, but also as a tender, supportive grandfather who encouraged them through many rough spots in their lives.

He always will be missed, but never forgotten. A private memorial service will be held for the family at a later date.
