Tipping, James Stanton (28 Dec. 1916 - 22 Nov. 2008)

James S. Tipping, 91, died Sat. Nov. 22, 2008, at Golden Living Center-Three Oaks, Marshfield. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, Marshfield, is assisting the family with arrangements.

James Stanton Tipping was born Dec. 28, 1916, in Pittsburgh, son of Joseph and Margaret (Wilson) Tipping. As a medical officer in the U.S. Army in World War II, Dr. Tipping was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Campaign Stars and the Bronze Arrowhead for landing on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. He also received the Combat Medical Badge and the Bronze Star Medal, along with numerous other recognitions.

He was united in holy marriage to the former Elsie Jane Young on Jan. 10, 1946, in New York City.

Dr. Tipping was a physician in private practice for more than 30 years and was a clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.

He is survived by his children, Dr. Stuart J. (Christine) Tipping, Marshfield, and Dr. Margaret (Fritz) Menninger, Ojai, Calif.; four grandchildren; and one brother, Howard Tipping, Pittsburgh.
