Scheller, Bessie Elizabeth (Rzeszutek) (August 25, 1914 - July 1, 2011)


Bessie Elizabeth Scheller, 96, Medford, died on Friday, July 1 at Our House Assisted Living in Medford, under hospice and palliative care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in the Town of Spirit.


Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.


Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.


The former Bessie Rzeszutek was born on August 25, 1914 in Spirit Falls to the late Joseph and Agnes (Ciszek) Rzeszutek. She attended Spirit Falls Grade School and helped on the family farm.


On September 3, 1932 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tomahawk, she married Max Scheller, who preceded her in death on December 3, 2007. They lived with his parents until they purchased a dairy farm adjacent to his parents' farm and eventually operated both farms until the early 1970s. They continued to live in the Town of Spirit until 1999 whey they moved to Medford.


She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Liberty Belles Homemakers and St. John the Baptist Christian Mothers Confraternity. She enjoyed the farm, picking wild berries, reading, nature and spending time with family and friends.


Survivors include four children, Jeanne (Eugene) Glenzer of Rib Lake, Philip (Barbara) of Spirit, Mary (Robert) Driscoll of Enfield, Conn., and Edward (Sherryl) Scheller of Tomahawk; a sister, Helen VanderVoort of Tomahawk; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Philip Scheller in February 1973; three brothers, John (Olga), Stanley (Helen) and Frank (Ann); and a brother-in-law, Hans VanderVoort.
