Eugene "Gene" C. Mathey, 87, Town of Westboro, was pronounced dead on Thursday, Sept. 15 at his home. The family invites Gene's friends to a Celebration of Life gathering on Sunday, Oct. 30 from noon to 4 p.m. at BS Bar and Catering. Lunch will be served following remembrances of Gene.

Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.

Eugene Mathey was born on December 1, 1923 in Medford to the late Charles and Helen (Schlais) Mathey. He attended Medford area elementary school and was a graduate of Medford High School.

On June 2, 1947 in Mercer, he married Mildred Kliscz, who preceded him in death on March 16, 1983. After his education, he entered the United States Army and served during World War II. After the military, he started Mathey Trucking which he operated in Alaska and Wisconsin for many years until his retirement.

He was a member of Klossner-Dietzler VFW Post No. 5729 of Medford. He enjoyed hunting and playing the accordion.

Survivors include four daughters, Nancy Mathey of England, Barb (Paul) Heroman of Grand Rapids, Mich., Debbie (Kaloku Bona) Mathey of Hawaii, and Cindy (Fritz) Guenther of Chehalis, Wash.; a brother, Charles of Woodstock, Ill.; three sisters, Ruth Thomas of Menomonie, Alice Levenhagen of King, and Fern Crenshaw of Bend, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alex; and two sisters, Delores Linzner and Bertha Garland.

The family would like to thank Gene's wonderful neighbors and friends who have been so supportive, especially since his stroke in April.

The family requests any memorial monies be given in Gene's name to the Klossner-Dietzler VFW Post No. 5729, 240 S. Eighth St., Medford, WI 54451.
