Jensen, Mary L. (Rickaby) (August 30, 1923 - September 8, 2011)

Mary L. Jensen, 88, Medford, died on Thursday, Sept. 8 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford, where she had resided the past 18 days.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in the Town of Holway, with Rev. Kris Bjerke-Ulliman officiating. Burial was at Our Saviours Church Cemetery in the Town of Holway. Pallbearers were Jedediah, Nick and A.J. Jensen, Luke and Andy Reischl and Andy Lieser.


Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.


The former Mary Rickaby was born on August 30, 1923 in Medford to the late Charles and Anna M. (Ekdahl) Rickaby. She attended Sawyer Dam Elementary School and was a 1941 graduate of Medford High School.


On September 9, 1942 in the Town of Holway, she married Frederick "Junior" P. Jensen, who preceded her in death on April 9, 2009.

She did secretarial/clerical work and then became a legal secretary before becoming the real property tax lister for Taylor County until her retirement.


She was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church. She enjoyed curling, snowshoeing, gardening, quilt making, arts and crafts, and she decorated cakes for over 50 years.


Survivors include four children, Barry (Jan) of Madison, Loren "Lon" of White Lake, Mich., Kristin (Greg) Reischl of Racine and Martin "Marty" (Nicolette) of Batavia, Ill.; a brother, John of Abbotsford; two sisters, Nancy Cox of Abbotsford and Karen (Earl) Hoeck of Dorchester; three sisters-in-law, Edna Rickaby of Burnet of Texas, Geri Rickaby of Gridley, Calif., and Celia Jensen of Miami, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Bernard Selby of Withee; nine grandchildren; Jennifer (Kevin), Jedediah, Nick, A.J., Ellie, Luke, Andy, Devon and Lauren (Andy); and five great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Kenneth and Charles; two sisters, Helen Staab and Lillian Selby; and a daughter-in-law, Cathie Jensen in 2008.


In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to her family to be designated at a later date.
