Nowak, Ruth Thelma (Copeland) (October 15, 1934 - July 2, 2010)

Ruth Thelma Nowak, 75, Medford, died Friday, July 2 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 6 at First Baptist Church in Medford, with Pastor Brian Wipf officiating. Interment was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Pallbearers were Adam Nowak, Aaron Nowak, Travis Nowak, Ryan Nowak, Josh Grabau, Gary Neuman and Jim Reinehart.


The former Ruth Copeland was born October 15, 1934 in the Town of Deer Creek to the late William and Jessie (Ireland) Copeland. She attended Dorchester Grade School and was a 1952 graduate of Dorchester High School.


On November 25, 1953 at United Church of Christ in Dorchester, she married Donald O. Nowak, who preceded her in death on May 31, 1996. They worked together at the family dairy farm in Deer Creek, and she also worked at Copp's IGA in the deli department for 15 years.


She was a member of First Baptist Church. She enjoyed baking, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren and family, going for walks and collecting teddy bears.


Survivors include three sons, David (Jean) of Stetsonville, Duane (Peggy) of Medford and Danny (Carla) of Athens; a daughter, Debbie (Gary) Neumann of Medford; five sisters, Margaret (Dave) Senn of South Carolina, Ann Schiro of Abbotsford, Mildred (Wayne) Kayhart of Marshfield, Nora (Eddie) St. Germain of Illinois and Doris (Dave) Rosenthal of Lomira; four brothers, Marvin (Gloria) of Kansas, Raymond (Karen) of Curtiss, William Jr. (Dorothy) of Missouri and Larry (Marge) of Edgar; three sisters-in-law, Velda Copeland of Missouri, Mary Anne Copeland of Fox Lake and Margaret Copeland of California; 13 grandchildren, Callie Neumann of Medford, Joshua Grabau, Katie Borman, Ryan Nowak, Mindy Reinehart, Miranda Reinehart and Jim Reinehart, all of Medford, Travis Nowak of Wausau, Adam Nowak of Minneapolis, Minn., Aaron Nowak of La Crosse, and Caleb Nowak, Megan Nowak and Faith Nowak, all of Athens; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Haley Nowak on July 13, 2002; and eight siblings, Laverne, James, Glen, Leon, Milton, Joyce, and Catherine and Merle in infancy.


In lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor may be given to the family to be designated at a later date.

Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.
