Steinbach, Herbert C. (March 23, 1916 - December 11, 2010)


Herbert C. Steinbach, 94, Medford, was pronounced dead on Saturday, Dec. 11 at his home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 14 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medford, with Rev. James Krueger officiating, and military rites performed by the Medford Military Honors Team. Burial was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Pallbearers were Ben and Chuck Egle, Dick Steinbach, Ray Klingbeil, Werner Zuleger and Gerry Neuberger.


Herbert Steinbach was born on March 23, 1916 in Medford to the late Paul and Mary (Werner) Steinbach Sr.

He attended Medford area schools and was a 1935 graduate of Medford High School. After his education, he worked in Milwaukee then entered the United States Army and served from 1942 to 1945 during World War II.


On April 27, 1946 in Birnamwood, he married Adeline Draeger, who survives. In 1946 he returned to Medford and worked as a self-employed carpenter and home builder in the area for many years until retirement.


He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and its choir, Medford VFW Post No. 5729 where he served on the Military Honors Team, and a past member of the old City Band and the local Bavarian Band. He enjoyed annually attending the 6th Armored Division reunions held nationally, hunting, fishing and watching football.


In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Steinbach of Medford; nieces and nephews; and cousins.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Paul Jr., Walter and Bill, Inez Egle, Alma Beretta, Verna Rowe and Ruth Steinbach in infancy.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given in his name to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
