Boelk, Leo A. (August 13, 1918 - July 22, 2009)  

Leo A. Boelk, 90, Medford, was pronounced dead Wednesday, July 22 at his home.  

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 25 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medford, with Rev. Carl J. Busse officiating. Burial was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II with graveside military rites performed by the Medford Military Honors Team.  

Pallbearers were Bill, Jesse and Lucas Brunner, Dave Konieczny, Dennis Junger, Dick Czerniak and Dick Boelk. 

Leo Boelk was born August 13, 1918 in Lafayette County to the late William F. and Marie A. (Krupke) Boelk. He attended Zion elementary schools in South Wayne. In his early years he did farming work for neighbors. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1940 to 1945. 

On December 16, 1951 in Lena, Ill., he married Gladys E. Krahmer, who survives.  

After the service, he did painting work in Lena, owned and operated a livestock trucking business in Stephenson Co., Ill., and in 1958 purchased a farm in the Thorp area. In 1965 he moved to Medford and owned and operated the Kramer Motel for four years, in 1969 they moved to the Town of Medford and he drove school bus, worked at the IGA Store, drove ready mix truck for Frances Melvin for six years, sold real estate for Dairyland Realty for three years and worked for Brunner Well Drilling for five years, retiring in 1983. During retirement he did water sampling in the area and sold produce at the Medford Farmers Market. 

He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and Medford VFW. He enjoyed deer hunting, trapping, gardening, playing cards, fishing, the outdoors and making firewood. 

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Delmar (Bettina) of Medford; two daughters, Tamara (David) Gentry of Woodbury, Minn., and Tina Wells of Medford; a sister, Ruth Vincent of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; two brothers, Harold (Mabel) of Warren, Ill., and Ralph of Mendota, Ill.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel DeVoe; a brother Frank; and a son-in-law, Ethan J. Wells on March 14, 2003. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in his name to any veteran affiliated charity.
