Martinson, Irene Gladys (Gjertson) (June 24, 1927 - July 31, 2009)  

 

Irene Gladys Martinson, age 82, of Westboro, died Friday, July 31, 2009 at home, surrounded by her family.  

 

She was born June 24, 1927 in Maywood, Ill., the daughter of Gerhardt and Nora (Halverson) Gjertson.  

 

She was united in marriage to Marvin H. Martinson on October 4, 1947. Together they enjoyed 60 years of marriage and raised five children. 

 

Irene was a loving mother, wife and friend. She worked for Schering Corporation for many years as a lab technician. She enjoyed cooking and canning, working in her flower gardens, fishing, crossword puzzles, Yahtzee and reading. 

 

She will be missed by family, including three sons, Rodney, Duane "Marty" (fiancé Tammy Joyce) and Jim (Roxanne), all of Madison; two daughters, Theresa (Harvey) Aylsworth of Rock Springs and Tina (fiancée Bill Ellner) Martinson of Sun Prairie; six grandchildren; Casey, Elliott and Ryan Martinson and Heather (Chad) Cassidy, Michelle (Darren) Glover and Alesha (Bryan) Watson; three great-grandchildren, Grace Watson and Dane and Taylor Glover; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. 

 

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin on January 6, 2008: her parents: and two brothers, Russell and Ronald Gjertsen. 

 

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Aug. 5 at Ryan Funeral Home in Madison. 

 

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to hospice for their compassion, and memorials may be directed to Home Health United Hospice, 1111 8th St., Baraboo, WI.
