-Stryk, Elvera (Marriage - 20 AUG 1949)

At six o’clock Saturday evening, Aug. 20, 1949, a pretty wedding was solemnized at the All Saints Cathedral in Chicago, when Elvera Stryk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maln Stryk of Lublin, exchanged vows with Henry Sobczyk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sobczyk of Marion, Ill.

The bride, who was given away by her father, wore an entrained gown of heavy satin with a sweetheart neckline, long sleeves and hooped skirt. A wide band of bead embroidery outlined the neckline, extending down the front of the gown where it outlined the ruffled lace insertion. Her Chantilly lace edged fingertip veil fell from a tiara of pearlized orange blossoms and her flowers were a cascade arrangement of white roses centered with a white orchid.

The bride’s attendants were her sister, Patsy Stryk, as maid of honor; Olga Ciegielnik of Detroit, Mich., bridesmaid, both in Nile green and Gail Sobczyk, niece of the groom, as junior bridesmaid, dressed in pink. They wore identical gowns of marquisette and satin, styled with sheer yokes outlined with deep ruffle fitted satin bodices, full satin skirts with overskirts of marquisette, with a deep ruffle around and extending up the back to form a bustle. They wore headpieces of pink roses, ribbons matching their gown. Their colonial bouquets were the same. Pearl necklaces completed their ensembles.

Lee Sobczyk, brother of the groom, was best man. Both men were in formal summer attired of white jackets and dark trousers.

During the ceremony, “Ave Maria” was sung.

A supper and reception for about 75 people was held in the Tropical Room of the Lions building.

The bride’s mother wore black with matching accessories and a corsage of a purple orchid.

The newly married couple left on a wedding trip thru Wisconsin, and upon their return will make their home in Chicago, where the groom is a mailman.

Among the out of town guests were: Mr. and Mrs. M. Stryk, Lublin; Mrs. F. Kulwiec, Medford; Otto Bishop, Ladysmith; Mr. Sobczyk, Marion, Ill.; Mrs. A. Wilimzik, Barkeley, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. E. Stasiak and son of South Chicago, and Mr. and Mrs. J. Dedina, Northlake, Ill.
