Humbird (30 May 1968)

Mrs. Elsie Duerkop of Dodgeville came Tuesday to visit at the Elmer and Ivan Duerkop homes and with relatives in Mondovi.

Mrs. Levi Fitzmaurice is among the lucky folks. Saturday she won the grand prize at the Gamble store in Neillsville, a power lawn mower.

Mrs. Rudy Aeschbacher went to Whitewater Saturday to spend a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Carroll.

Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Hein received a letter from an old friend who lived here some years ago. A name or two mentioned in the letter was not quite clear in his mind, so over to the Newton home the letter was brought and for 20 minutes old memories were brought up and the letter read and re-read. After long years, their mutual friend, Mrs. Pearl (Miller) Stubblefield, now living in Helena, Mont., had received a newspaper clipping and picture of Mr. Hein skating, from a friend in La Crosse, and now writes inquiring about many of those living here when she and her mother, Mrs. Etta Miller and brother, Frank, did. To those who remember the family, she sends greetings and says her health is quite good. All goes to show that our small town newspapers are the links that bring old friends together in their later lives.

Col and Mrs. Neil Hein started on their trip home Thursday morning, but after flying a short distance, the weather conditions being bad, they returned to Black River Falls and Mr. Hein’s father drove down and brought then back home with him. The next day flying conditions were better so they left for their home in Chipita Park, Colo.
