Schultz, William “Bud” (15 MAY 1923 - 7 FEB 2013)

William “Bud” Schultz, age 89, of Unity, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013, at the Golden Living Center, Abbotsford.

Bud was born May 15, 1923, to William and Esther (Goutcher) Schultz in Loyal. He was a graduate from Unity High School.

Bud had played semi-pro basketball on the Unity Tigers basketball team and also played semi-pro baseball in Owen. Bud and Dolores “Del” Peter were joined in marriage on June 3, 1947, at St. Mary’s Rectory in Colby.

Bud was a cattle dealer, working with farmers across the state, buying and selling cattle. He was the village of Unity president and was a member of the Mid-Wisconsin Bank Board. Bud was active in the Unity Sportsman’s Club, raising the pheasants for stocking area fields, the Unity horse pull, and building the Unity ball diamond.

Bud enjoyed the outdoors: hunting and fishing; he closely followed local high school sports, enjoyed watching pro baseball and basketball games and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Bud also logged on thousands of miles driving around the Unity area checking on Lynn farms to make sure the cows were healthy and the fields were planted.

Bud could tell you every cow he bought, how much it cost, who he got it from, and where they lived. He had a remarkable memory for the details. He enjoyed sharing stories of his youth.

Having no children of his own, he was know as "Uncle Bud" to a couple of generations of kids in Unity. He gave each child a special nickname and had many favorites throughout the years.

Bud is lovingly survived by his wife of 65 years, Dolores (Del); his sister, Irene Flink of Colby; his sisters-in-law, Sister Margaret Peter of Milwaukee and Dorothy Arnold of Tucson, Ariz.; and his brother-in-law, Bill Krempges of Springfield, Mo.

He is also survived by nephews and nieces, Robert Flink (Lottie) of Abbotsford, Jerry Flink (LuAnn) of Colby, Richard Flink (Elaine) of Appleton, Ronald Flink (Virgina) of Marshfield, Jack Flink of Dorchester, Karen Hoernke (Dave) of Portage, Kris Woik (Denis) of Colby, and Kevin Flink (Kris O'Leary) of Abbotsford; numerous nieces and nephews on Del's side; and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Bud is preceded in death by his brother, Orville Schultz, and sister, June Schultz.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Unity.

Pastor Al Houts officiated. A visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church in Unity. Burial followed the service at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Colby.

In lieu of flowers, Bud’s family has asked memorials be donated to the Unity Memorial Hall for future improvements.

The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home assisted the Schultz family with funeral arrangements.
